What is an apostille?
An apostille is a certificate issued by the competent authorities of a signatory state to the Hague Convention, for official documents drawn up in that country, which are to be presented on the territory of another signatory state to the Convention. The purpose of issuing an apostille is to certify the signature, the position of the person who signed the document, the identity of the seal or stamp applied to an official document, in order to prevent the use of false documents in order to produce legal effects.
In the case of the Republic of Moldova, the apostille is applied by the Ministry of Justice, namely the Apostille Directorate.

What documents are subject to apostille?
- study papers;
- notarial documents;
- civil status documents;
- documents issued by courts;
- confirmatory certificates issued by CNAS, CNAM, city halls, prefectures;
- medical certificates and certificates issued by the Central Commission for Medical Examination of Migrants and the National Center for Public Health;
- notarized copies and translations of the above-mentioned documents.
